While were on the subject

Warning this post includes politics, strong language and opinions. I respect the fact you might not want to continue reading. It is a good thing typepad ate my post from last night : )

I love the rain and the cold air. I actually wore a sweater yesterday. Bliss!

The leaves are turning colors at record speed. I am thinking of nutmeg and apples. Yum! Yeah, the food thing again. It's just the chef in me. : )

Oh,I will have to snap a few pictures of my very used but new toy. Wink! I think you will really like it!

I watched the RNC this week. WTF? I have come to realize my fear of this whole political deal is getting me no where. I've never claimed to understand politics. Again, being married to an ex- political science major doesn't make it any easier for me. He tries but, I am hopeless. : )

What I do understand is:

I live in a neighborhood where each morning we all head out to work but, many of my neighbors are at odds each month. Rent or food? America that is a problem!

Less than a mile from my home, children can't play in front of windows in fear of getting shot.

Kids (right here in the US ) are starving and valuing life less! WTF are WE going to do about it??

Five million dollars ain't middle class!

Would you like fries with that George?

My uncle worked 20 years for General Motors, recently he was handed his walking papers. As deep as my soul runs I promise you- to hear a grown man cry because shit ain't right no more is devastating.

Something has got to give!

I have held my child's face in my hands and made him look at me and promise he will take the long route home instead of the short cut. I'm afraid for my son. This makes me sad.

I don't give a shit if you are republican or democrat, we all deserve health care without worrying about bills! Dying in peace should be a fuc*ing law!

I am a child of a UAW (united auto worker) and I don't run from that. I stop and talk to city workers, auto workers, Miller beer makers. These are people who have paved my way. I have been told many a times in my life. Get an education, you don't want to end up like me. Well, we have educations and we still are barely making it.

My husband and I have $$ going to law school loans each month. Why do we feel like failures because we tried to make it out. Out of where I ask myself often.

I don't think you and I are that much different. I want the best for my  kids, I want our soldiers to return home safe. I can't help but wonder which direction our country is going.

I have to be brave and continue to try and understand what is happening to our country.

Have a beautiful day!

Hello to the driver who cleaned our street this morning. Thank you for waving and making the school kids laugh and clap their hands.

Hello September

Time seems to be getting away from me. It's time to fill my head with all sorts of new words and information, while at the same time passing it on to my kids, the best I can : )

Autumn is my favorite time of year, even when it sneaks up on me.

This weekend I took a trip to the farmers market and gathered lots of fruits and veggies. I made a beautiful eggplant parmesan. Believe me when I say that it was good. The tomato gravy took me on a trip to Tuscany. Sunday, I smothered mushrooms and onions in browned butter and tossed them with ribbons of pasta and grated romano. I added slices of grilled, skirt steak for my husband and son. Mmmm... the fall season is a chefs dream. See I get carried away, that's why I leave the cooking talk off the blog! LOL

How could I forget, the kids stood around the grill and made s'mores with cinnamon graham crackers.

I puttered around the house this weekend. I didn't hurry to do anything, yet things seemed to get done.

As we drove home last night from our friends house. It was amazing to smell all the barbecue grills still going at it. It was 9:oo in the evening and we saw a smoker still filling the neighborhood with it's goodness! A farewell to Summer, I suppose. : )

I welcome fall with it's rich colors, it's inviting crops, and  it's blooming orchards of apples.

Time to slip into our old, comfortable, chairs of life. What a blessing to be able to flip through the pages of a new chapter.

Happy times, my friends : )

Love Thursday

Did I ever tell you she brings me things? Ever since she was little she has brought me gifts that I know I wouldn't notice if she wasn't in my life. She gave me my first dandelion and days later, tears rolled down her cheeks, as she tried to understand why this flower had to die.

I have smiled and eaten scrambled eggs with shells and squealed when she brought crickets into the house, just for me.

When my loaves of bread came up missing, I soon learned the bread was being used as a trail, so I could see the ducks at my back door. Literally.

Did I mention the dead squirrel she found and wanted to have a proper burial for? Might I add- we threw it down for "Bucky." : )

She is older now, so a few things have changed.

My daughter shouts mama each time BabyPhat dot com has a sale or Lil Wanye is on the radio. Help me!

Just the other day she handed me a spoon filled with a andouille and red pepper sauce. As my hand met hers to ease the spoon to my lips, she waited anxiously for my reply on how she did... Smooth sweetheart. God knows I wanted to comment on every beautiful layer she had carefully added to the pot, but love over took me and I began to see her grow up right in front of me.

Some things happily remain the same.

: )

The majority of us lead quiet, unheralded lives as we pass through this world. There will most likely be no ticker-tape parades for us, no monuments created in our honor. But that does not lessen our possible impact, for there are scores of people waiting for someone just like us to come along; people who will appreciate our compassion, our unique talents. Someone who will live a happier life merely because we took the time to share what we had to give. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have a potential to turn a life around. It's overwhelming to consider the continuous opportunities there are to make our love felt.

I accept

This sweetie pie handed this Arte y Pico award to me today! Bliss! OMGoodness! I don't even have to wait to have it inscribed. Poor Oscar winners, I've read they have to wait forever.

I just picked the award up and brought it over here to the Soul Aperture family. I will pick 5 blogs to share this award with very soon.  Honestly, this beats the warm chocolate chip cookie I had today, really it does.

Thank you from the bottom of heart.

Sniffle, sniffle.

Sweet dreams ; )
